Get To Know Kindergarten At St. Barnabas Episcopal School

It may be hard to believe, but a new school year is less than two months away. While you’re likely thinking that summer break just started, and next school year is the last thing on your mind, now is the time to decide where to send your kindergartner for their first year of school.
Choosing a school for your kindergartner can be an overwhelming experience. With the wide variety of charter, community, and private schools to choose from, why should St. Barnabas Episcopal School be your first choice?

Interdisciplinary Thematic Instruction
Our Kindergarten teachers nurture the joy of learning! Our program uses an Interdisciplinary form of thematic instruction as its instructional model. This model is highly engaging for students and provides opportunities for making connections across subjects relating to one or more branches of knowledge. Our Global Goal is to instill the skills needed to acquire higher order and critical thinking skills through brain based strategies, and through the use of multiple intelligences.

Smaller class sizes means a greater focus on the needs of individual students, and a smaller campus means your kindergartner will be able to experience a familial and close-knit environment where they won’t be lost in the shuffle.

Our kindergartners have regular field trips as well as a wide variety of special areas that include the arts and physical education. While many other schools in Volusia County don’t provide protected time for recess, your child will always have recess at St. Barnabas. From day one of kindergarten to their last day of 8th grade, we recognize the value that the freedom of recess and inclusive curriculum holds for your child as they begin their academic journey.

Educating the Whole Child
Beyond simple academic subjects, your kindergartner will also have daily bible lessons and weekly chapel time, as well as an engaging Christian Education bible based class. The goal with this is to include foundational faith development and spiritual formation in your child’s well-rounded education. Developing your child’s character through a focus on the Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control), we strive to provide your child with a strong basis on which their character and virtues will be built.

At St. Barnabas Episcopal School, we value the unique opportunity to provide your child with an education that is of the highest quality. Prioritizing the needs of our students above all else, we recognize the great responsibility we hold in our pursuit of academic excellence. “Educating the whole child” is more than just a saying. Teaching servant leadership, leading by example, and exemplifying the grace and love of Christ is the goal of every adult your child will encounter.
